The River Is Flowing, Flowing and Growing.....

Just a quick update to let folks know what is going on with the bus saga...

At this time our bus sits in North Hollywood, gutted and awaiting a new engine. The engine is being shipped from Michigan and should be here by Thursday. If all goes well we should be back on the road by late next week. Now we just have to hope that it is as good an engine as the guy we bought it from claims (gulp). Meanwhile, we have been staying at a dear friends house in Van Nuys and a family member in Ventura County, counting the days until we are once again back in our home.

My belly is getting bigger seemingly by the hour as Sage put s on weight for her impending birth, in one and a half months. I managed to find a wonderful childbirth class for Moss and I to attend. It is in the tradition of Birthing From Within by Pam England. Last night was the first class in Santa Barbara, along with three other couples, all planning natural home births as well. It felt so good to finally be around other pregnant women and to share all the fears and excitement with others who understand. It was good for the dad's too and they are very much included in the class. We practiced using various pain coping techniques while holding ice cubes in tightly clenched fists. It is surprisingly painful. There are three other sessions we will be attending before the end of the month, as well as various other breastfeeding and child care classes I have lined up for us. The Birthing From Within Class is normally 300 and some odd dollars, but the teacher agreed to a partial cash payment and trade of one of my fiber sculptures.

Now that the bus issue is sort of on it's way to being solved, we have to think about how we are going to come up with the money needed to pay for our midwife. It ended up that a good portion of the money we were going to give the midwife, went to get our bus fixed, as without that we are esentialy homeless. On top of that, work is starting up later than we had hoped. There is a slight possibility that we will have to just pay for the service we received thus far, then leave and head up North in May, where midwives are much less expensive (in Oregon state insurance will cover all costs), to have the baby. Then again, the idea of driving all that distance in the bus, bouncing and shaking, in my last month is NOT appealing. Not to mention we really like the people we are with. However, we will do as we must when the time comes. If work picks up soon, which it is expected to any day, then we may not have to do that.

On another note, I have an auction up On Ebay.Below I have included a photo of the piece. If anyone is intrested in any of the fiber art shown now or ever, feel free to contact me for prices and availability.

*Update* ~ "Spirit Wind has sold on Ebay

Wanted to place a bid on your pregnant gal. Think your wool sculptures are stunning and thought what a perfect piece. Unfortunately it says you don't ship to Canada. Is there anything I could do to change your mind?

Every photo I see of the inside of the bus just blows me away. It is really stunning. In fact it has inspired my husband and I to start thinking of getting a bus to use when travelling through the summer.

Best of luck with the new engine and the classes.

Oh no..that is a mistake ! I DO ship to Canada ! I thought I put on there that I ship worldwide ! Well that is what it's suposed to be anyway.Hmmm... I had such trouble with that feature the day I posted her.

Well, I cannot change it now that someone else has bid, ebay will not let me. However, if you do bid anyway and happen to win, rest assured..I WILL ship to Canada !

Thanks for the kind words too. If you end up getting a bus and have any questions or need advice on something..give a holler. ~ Pixie

Your story is so inspiring! I found you by accident when browsing for felted art. I now have a two year old and wanted to let you know not to worry about all those silly mommy feelings you get in the night! I think women are empowered with an instict that takes over and blocks out self doubt when the need arises.
You seem like a fun family for any baby to be raised in. Children really respond to environment and upbringing from the very beginning. Our son has grown to be a very happy, kind natured, and caring baby just by observing his parents.

Just wondering, might you also be considering raising her vegetarian? Our son is, and he is above average in every way! well, good luck!

Hi there and thanks for the reasuring words ! To answer your question, yes we will be raising our daughter as a vegetarian. Both myself and Moss have been for 18 years now, and definitely so will our daughter be raised. I will try not to let my new mom worries get the best of me, and am really counting on that instinct thing kicking in, as I have virtually no experience with babies! I know we'll do great though..

Just checked tribe to see how you were doing and was so sad to read of your misfortune. The three of you will be in my prayers this evening. I hope you'll be back on the road soon. That is a beautiful home you have, by the way. Very comfortable looking.

Wishing you a safe journey!

Hi Pixie! Oh, I absolutely love Spirit Wind and want so badly to give him a home. But I lost my job last week - a stupid job anyway - I'd really rather be self employed :) So I have to pinch pennies for a moment ... were it not so, I'd be the first bidder. I do think you have a lot of potential with Ebay, once people start finding your work there. Looking forward to pics of your Gemini gal, Sage, soon! I'll be secretly delighted if she arrives on the 10th, my 40th b'day ;)

Oh - forgot to say - reading about your bus is one thing - impressive, but I don't think I "got it." But seeing it? NOW I understand. What an amazing home you and Moss have!!!

A friend of mine just turned me onto your blog, so I have been reading the archives. What a fun story you all have! I don't know if you will get this comment because I am so far back in your archives and from your recent post, I know you may be without a computer for awhile. Anyhow, I am training to be a birthing from within mentor and every time I read about you being in Santa Barbara it reminds of a mentor I know there. I wonder if it is the same woman you got to do your classes with. I am so happy you got to experience BFW during your pregnancy.
